Overview

Peter has developed a strong foundation in a variety of practice areas during his early legal career, focusing mostly on complex commercial and business litigation for both large and small clients. His areas of practice have included construction law, defending architects and engineers in professional liability actions, and a considerable real estate practice handling mortgage foreclosures, and residential and commercial real estate closings, and advising condominium associations in collections actions, tax-lien foreclosures, and by-law interpretation. He has substantial experience practicing in Massachusetts state court as well as several federal district courts.

After graduating from law school, Peter clerked at the Land Court Department of the Massachusetts Trial Court, and also worked with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection on Brownfields redevelopment projects. He was an editor of Vermont Journal of Environmental Law and a clinician at the Environmental and Natural Resources Law Clinic at Vermont Law School. Peter was also co-president of the BFC, a local organization that encouraged bond-building in South Royalton, Vermont. Additionally, he spent one summer as a prosecutor at the Windham County State’s Attorney’s Office in Brattleboro, Vermont.

Experience
  • Assisted in defense of geotechnical engineering firm and owner’s representative against claims of professional negligence relating to pile-driving activities during construction of warehouse for non-profit food bank organization, which resulted in directed verdict in favor of owner’s representative client and jury verdict in favor of engineering firm client after 8-day trial.
  • Brought mortgage foreclosure from initial notice letter through final foreclosure sale and auction for lender client; negotiated loan modification agreement as alternative to foreclosure for another borrower of same lender client.
  • Managed 10-person eDiscovery team for complex construction litigation case involving utility-scale solar array installations on Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard. 
  • Drafted federal court petitions for discovery for use in foreign litigation involving breach of fiduciary duties between shareholders in international company developing enhanced petroleum recovery technology.
