Overview

Alexander Baker was the founding partner of the MG+M Chicago office with the goal of meeting clients’ needs in Cook County and surrounding areas. Since its beginnings in 2019, the MG+M Chicago office has grown exponentially and continues to grow, helping clients with both litigation and transactional matters. Alexander concentrates his practice on complex civil litigation in a variety of areas, including in the defense of toxic torts and personal injury lawsuits, where he handles all phases of litigation from inception through trial in jurisdictions all over the country, including those considered to be the most dangerous for defendants.

Alexander is also a member of the firm’s maritime and trucking litigation groups, where his clients range from small businesses to national corporations in a variety of areas, including negligence, breach of contract, wrongful death and USCG administrative proceedings. In addition to handling litigation matters for his transportation clients, Alexander also provides counsel to businesses on transportation issues related to employment and safety through a review of businesses' safety compliance policies to protect his clients' interests. As an active member of the American Trucking Associations, he serves on the Insurance Task Force and Labor & Regulatory Policy Committees. He is also an active member of the Illinois Trucking Association, Wisconsin Motor Carriers’ Association and the Traffic Club of Chicago.

Outside of work, Alexander enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter where they reside in Oak Park, Illinois.

Experience
  • Successfully argued a motion to dismiss for lack of personal jurisdiction where the plaintiff argued our client had waived the defense by participating in discovery. The court’s granting of our client’s motion set good precedent in the jurisdiction on issues related to waiver and participation in discovery for other clients.
  • Received dismissal for a floor tile brand where Plaintiff alleged take-home exposure from her husband’s employment at a large floor tile distributor in the Chicago area. Dismissal was received after receiving significant demand from Plaintiff’s counsel.
  • Received dismissal for a cosmetic talc supplier in a case where the plaintiff alleged bystander exposure from his wife’s use of a popular cosmetic product brand. Plaintiff aggressively pursued our client with numerous sets of discovery, but due to responses eventually agreed to a voluntary dismissal. There were limited defendants related to cosmetic talc and posed significant risk in a dangerous jurisdiction.
  • Received Order granting client’s personal jurisdiction motion to dismiss for a brake supplier allegedly supplied on various presses at a large industrial facility in Michigan. Due to success in responding to discovery and defending the client’s corporate representative, Plaintiff had no option but to agree to granting client’s motion.
  • Successfully defended a captain in an investigation by the US Coast Guard involving an accident between an architectural tour boat and a kayaker on the Chicago River.
  • Successfully negotiated hundreds of high risk settlements resulting in positive results for clients.
