Gustavo Martínez-Tristani focuses his practice in the area of general maritime law. Within this area of the law, he has vast experience handling Jones Act, unseaworthiness, and maintenance and cure claims;  cruise passengers personal injury claims; first-party marine insurance claims; towage claims; salvage claims; vessels collisions and fires; intermodal transportation cargo claims; marina liability claims; and USCG administrative proceedings (involving suspension and revocation proceedings), among others. Gus also has experience handling state law personal injury claims, premises liability claims, medical mal-practice claims (including related EMTALA claims), and defense of vehicular/truck accident claims. Gus handles cases in state and federal courts in Florida and Puerto Rico.  

Gus was born and raised in Puerto Rico and earned his BA in sociology from the University of Puerto Rico. He earned his JD from the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico School of Law, where he was a member of the law review, the dean's list and graduated in the top 20% of his class. Gus then earned an LLM in admiralty and maritime law from Tulane University School of Law and graduated in the top 20% of his class.

Gus served in the US Army as an enlisted and commissioned officer, graduated from the US Army Ordnance School and the US Army Airborne School, 5th Special Forces Group. As an Army officer, Gus also commanded and trained Ordnance and Infantry reserve units.

In his free time, Gus enjoys bicycling, swimming and shooting (target practice).
