Katie E. Doherty received her B.S. in criminal justice from Lindenwood University, graduating summa cum laude while working full time as a St. Louis County Corrections Officer. During that time, she was selected for the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society based upon her academic achievement.
Katie earned her J.D. from Saint Louis University School of Law where she was a Dean’s Scholar recipient during each semester of her studies. She also received an Academic Excellence Award for achieving the highest grade in her Criminal Defense Clinic and was featured in a SLU Law article, which highlighted her success in negotiating wages for St. Louis County corrections officers.
While a St. Louis County Corrections Officer, Katie received a Director’s Citation Medal of Commendation during her service for meritorious conduct while on duty. She subsequently received the honor of being named the St. Louis County Department of Justice Services Employee of the Year for 2017. Katie maintained full-time employment with St. Louis County while she was in law school and during the bar exam.
Katie is licensed to practice in Missouri and Illinois. She is a member of the Missouri and Illinois State Bar Associations, The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, The Lawyers Association of St. Louis, The St. Clair County Bar Association, and the Women Lawyers’ Association of Greater St. Louis. Katie performs pro bono work for refugees and serves on the Citizens Participation Committee for the City of Florissant. She also volunteers in the St. Louis metro area by judging mock trials at both high school and undergrad levels and was a featured panel member at SLU Law in 2019, where she spoke to current students about her experiences as a former part-time student of the law school. She has recently teamed with Legal Services of Eastern Missouri and the Neighborhood Vacancy Initiative to help low-income neighborhoods in St. Louis address the issue of abandoned and nuisance properties, helping stabilize neighborhoods and creating more affordable housing for residents.
