MG+M litigation associate Marissa Morte authored a new blog discussing the American Transportation Research Institute’s (ATRI) reports focusing on verdicts in the trucking industry. The ATRI published a 2020 analysis which showed an increase in verdicts over $1 million. The study—Understanding the Impact of Nuclear Verdicts on the Trucking Industry—prompted the ATRI to investigate verdicts and settlements under $1 million, and in November 2021, they published a subsequent study The Impact of Small Verdicts and Settlements on the Trucking Industry. The data showed that while the smaller verdicts don’t have a large impact, they are increasing in both frequency and severity.
Morte provides insight into the ATRI’s findings and how their reports have impacted lawsuit abuse reform in the transportation field. Read more about the report and the resulting lawsuit reform trends and legislation on the Defense Litigation Insider blog here.
