Overview

Ryan Sweeney practices in the areas of products liability, toxic torts and asbestos litigation. Ryan defends his clients in a variety of capacities in all aspects of litigation. Ryan has defended clients at numerous depositions, at trial as second-chair attorney and on appeal. Ryan has argued two appeals in New York, as well as fully briefing several others, one resulting in plaintiff conceding a dismissal in favor of Ryan’s client before decision. Ryan’s specialty is motion practice, including motions to dismiss and summary judgment, having briefed and argued numerous motions across New York. Ryan previously briefed a post-trial decision resulting in the trial judge granting a mistrial following a jury verdict. In addition to client and product-specific defenses, Ryan is experienced with defenses involving personal jurisdiction, forum non conveniens, successor liability, corporate dissolution, choice of law, statutes of limitations and repose, as well as motions regarding general and specific causation.

During law school, Ryan was a legal intern in the Civil Division of the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York and a judicial intern in the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York. He was also a senior associate editor for the Hofstra Law Review.
